global, employee-owned engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer with technical expertise in the design of high-voltage substations for utilities, renewable energy interconnections, and hyperscale data center projects. This role will support and lead physical substation design while collaborating closely with clients and internal delivery teams to ensure compliant, high-quality project execution.

 

Locations: Houston, Dallas, or Austin (Hybrid flexibility available)

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering design and delivery of HV substation projects for utilities and developers.
  • Develop and review physical substation design packages, including:
    • Single-line diagrams, general arrangements, equipment layouts
    • Cable routing, conduit plans, grounding design, lightning protection
    • Bills of materials and equipment specifications
  • Perform and validate technical studies such as:
    • Short circuit analysis, bus forces, grounding, lightning, conduit fill, voltage drop
  • Support construction and provide field engineering assistance as needed.
  • Collaborate with and support interdisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews across multi-office project environments.
  • Participate in bid development and design-phase consulting services.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of HV substation physical design experience (115kV–345kV).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Experience with BIM substation design tools (e.g., Inventor, SDS-P4A, Primtech) preferred.
  • Strong communication and client coordination skills.
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits or client meetings.
